You ever use Ben Franklin’s list of self-improvement?

Ben Franklin had a long list of things for checking oneself before someone else called attention to his faults. When I began looking in to this, a shorter list was given to me and thus this search continues for a practical way for application: jealousy, anger, resentment, greed, egotism, arrogance, discontent, complaining. Anyone have something other than “theory” and is based on your actual application?
He had a list of 13 virtues. One good presentation of these is at www.school-for-champions.com/character/franklin_virtues.htm and I wonder you have any experience applying this?
